Privacy Policy

The 1850 Hotel (“The 1850,” “we,” “us”) is a 20-suite boutique hotel at 775 W King St, Boone, NC 28607, operated by Howard Street Ventures, LLC. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit 1850boone.com, book a stay, message our team, or stay with us, and how we use and protect it.
We keep it simple: we collect what we need to host you well, we never sell your information, and you can ask us what we have at any time.
Information we collect
When you book a stay, we collect your name, email, phone number, billing address, stay dates, number of guests, and any special requests. Card details go directly to our secure third-party payment processor; we never receive or store them.
When you use our contact form, we collect your name, email, phone number, and your message.
When you sign up for our newsletter, we collect your email address.
When you message, call, or text our team, we keep what you send us and our replies.
During your stay, we collect any vehicle details you provide for your parking space, along with entry logs from our smart-lock system showing which code opened which door, and when.
When you book through a third-party site such as Expedia, we receive the reservation details that site shares with us.
When you browse our website, we automatically collect your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, and the site that referred you, using cookies and similar tools.
We don’t ask for Social Security numbers, and we don’t knowingly collect sensitive information like health data unless you choose to share it (for example, an accessibility request).
How we use it
- To host your stay: confirm and manage reservations, process payment through our third-party processor, send your smart-lock code, assign parking, and provide the Parking & Provisions amenities.
- To talk with you: answer questions, send pre-arrival and during-stay messages, and follow up after checkout.
- To keep the property safe: secure entry, prevent fraud, and enforce our policies (for example, smoking and pet charges).
- To improve: understand how guests use our website and what they say about their stay.
- To send offers, only if you sign up: our newsletter and occasional promotions. You can unsubscribe anytime.
- To meet legal obligations: taxes, accounting, and responding to lawful requests.
How we share it
We do not sell your personal information, and we don’t share it with third parties for their own advertising.
We share only what each partner needs to do its job:
- Booking and payments: our reservation system, Cloudbeds. Card payments are collected and processed entirely by Cloudbeds Payments, a secure third-party payment provider. The 1850 and its staff cannot see or store your full card number or security code; we can see only the last four digits of the card used for your stay.
- Guest messaging and smart locks: our messaging and smart-lock providers, to send your access code and stay messages.
- Email: our email platform, for confirmations and the newsletter.
- Website hosting and analytics: Webflow hosts our site; Google Analytics helps us see how it’s used.
- Hospitality partners: partners receive only what’s needed to honor your breakfast vouchers, and our parking partner receives vehicle details so your car isn’t towed or booted.
- Third-party booking sites: if you book through Expedia or a similar site, they share your reservation with us, and their own privacy policies apply to what they collect.
- Our management team: The 1850 Hotel is managed by Nate Winkler Ventures LLC, doing business as Gather Hospitality, whose staff operate the hotel.
- Legal and safety: when required by law, to protect guests, staff or property, or as part of a sale or transfer of the hotel.
Cookies, analytics and embedded content
Our website uses cookies and similar tools to keep it working, remember your preferences, and measure traffic. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work, though some features may not.
Some pages include content from other services, such as Matterport virtual tours, Vimeo videos, and Google Maps. When you load those, the provider may collect data under its own privacy policy.
Our site does not currently respond to browser Do Not Track signals.
Emails and text messages
- About your stay: if you book, we’ll email and text you about your reservation, access code, and stay. These are part of the service and aren’t marketing.
- Marketing: we send newsletters and offers only if you sign up. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Texts: reply STOP to any text to opt out of further messages, or HELP for help. Message and data rates may apply. We don’t share your mobile number with third parties for their marketing.
How long we keep it and how we protect it
Retention: We keep reservation and billing records as long as needed for tax, accounting and legal purposes, generally 7 years. Contact form messages are kept about 3 years, and newsletter emails until you unsubscribe. Smart-lock entry logs are stored by our smart-lock provider under its own retention schedule; we keep them longer only if needed to investigate an incident.
Security: We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), unique per-stay access codes, and access limited to staff who need it. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your information, we’ll notify you as required by North Carolina law.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to:
- Tell you what personal information we have about you and give you a copy
- Correct anything that’s wrong
- Delete your information, unless we need to keep it for legal, tax or safety reasons, or our reservation system retains certain historical records
- Stop sending you marketing emails or texts
To make a request, email contact@1850boone.com with “Privacy Request” in the subject line. We’ll verify your identity and respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example, California, Virginia or Colorado), state law may give you additional rights, and we’ll honor them where they apply. We won’t treat you differently for making a request.
Children
Our website isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information. Reservations must be made by an adult. If you think a child has sent us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our services change. We’ll post the new version here with a new effective date, and for significant changes we’ll give additional notice on our website.
